Villa fulviana

Another of the lushly-piled Villas, this one has long golden pile on the thorax and abdomen, often a richer orange toward the distal half of the abdomen.  It also usually shows a dark leading edge and costal cell on the wings.  It's a widespread species across the cooler regions of the country and is regular on the high peaks of the Pinaleño Mtns.

Villa lateralis

This shiny black species is variable in size, typically with white bands on T2 and T4 as well as on the scutellum. It is very likely that this phenotype represents more than one species.

Villa nigropecta

This medium to large-sized Villa occurs regularly during late spring. It is mostly black with a little hint of abdominal rings, and a tergum that is white-edged and white-tipped.

Range: GREE, GRAH, PIMA, PNAL, STCR

Occurs: Early March to Late May

Villa pretiosa

Unidentified Villa photos

Somewhat similar to V. agrippina, this is a large species with golden pile. On V. pretiosa, there are several obvious dark rings on the abdomen, a character absent in V. agrippina.  They favor puddle edges.

Occurs: Late April to Early June
