Genus Triploechus
Triploechus novus
This is a large species with the wings smoky. The white and black pattern near the abdomen tip is very apparent. Most of the legs, and the 1st antennal segments, are black. At the bend-back of vein R2+3, there is usually a small stub-vein. Within our region, the species is restricted to the lowest deserts.

Triploechus sackeni
An uncommon desert species with a body length of 6 mm, considerably smaller than T. novus and with slightly brown-tinted wings. On males, the eyes do not quite touch. Head, thoracic, and abdominal pile is thick and almost entirely pale gray, as is the chitin, but there are also a few long black hairs on the abdomen. Individuals seem to favor broad, sandy washes and are usually found in mornings, mostly at damp soil.
