Genus Nyia
Nyia gazophylax
This large, sporadic species is similar to some of the patterned Exoprosopas but note the extra submarginal venation. The scutellum is typically rust colored, and the dark abdomen is usually lighter toward the tip but there is a prominent, wide white ring around T2. This species is attracted to mercury-vapor light. Recent regional records are lacking, with no Arizona reports since 1992, although it still occurs regularly in California and there is a single recent photograph from near Rodeo in New Mexico.
