Genus Eucessia
Eucessia “ojosverdes”
This species (description in prep), likely in Eucessia, frequents Euphorbia mats. As the name suggests, the eyes are a pale green while the total body length is 3-4 mm. It has Aphoebantus-like venation and a dark, thin, sparsely pilous tapering abdomen. The facial pile is pure white while the frontal pile is orange. The styles on the 3rd antennal segments are extremely short. The femora are dark and the tibiae and tarsi are fulvous to orange.
Range: COCH
Occurs: Late August
Eucessia “rubensioides”
Several specimens of this taxon (description in prep) have been taken in the region. All were found visiting flowers of Euphorbia - in Happy Valley in the Rincon Mtns, along the road into Ft. Bowie, and at the west end of Park Link Drive southeast of Picacho Peak. Our individuals are probably an undescribed species; they differ from the typical California species, rubens, in that they lack the white abdominal spotting usually seen in that taxon. The small size, 3 to 5 mm long, and rapid ground-flying behavior, suggest that the species may be overlooked rather than rare.
Range: COCH, PIMA, PNAL
Occurs: Late August to Mid-September
